You Are Important To Us, We Need You To Survive

The Theme for 2023 is “Serving Our Community”.

To accomplish our mission we are going to need all hands on deck, the real hands and the virtual ones, the local and the distant. As a church we can grow wide, that is increase the number of people we fellowship with as a body, or we can grow deep, that is in knowledge of God’s word, prayer, praise, love, and unity. It is my belief that the Lord wants us to strive for growth both ways. The Bottom Line, ”All People Need the Lord”. The Springfield Baptist Church has the mission/charge to share Jesus with the world.

Proposed Church Initiatives 2023

1.  Communicate with every member on the Church Rolls of Springfield Baptist Church whether local or distant.

2.  Institute a church outreach program at least once per quarter to at least One Nursing home, Hospital, Jail and or School

3.  Pair ministers and deacons and map them to a church member or church family for connection and care. To perform things like

communion, prayer, scripture and be the interface between church members and the church ministries namely the missionary ministry.

4.  Perform two outdoor type meetings or services that are advertised and welcoming of the community.

5.  Welcome packet and protocol for new members and members we have not communicated with in a long time.

6.  Minister development Recurring Monthly opportunity for faithful associate ministers and faithful aspiring ministers to deliver a message to

the church and receive immediate feedback from the church regarding areas of improvement (Constructive criticism).

  2. Meet in person/teleconference with every pastor in the North end Union

  3. Visit a combination of 3 schools, nursing homes, hospitals, jails and introduce them to Springfield Baptist church and ministry capabilities.

  4. Facilitate at least one church Retreat away from Church

  5. Facilitate at least 2 virtual programs with a Sister Church in the Bluestone conference

  6. The work that the church needs to complete this year is way beyond the capacity of any one person. To be successful in our calling will take faith, an epic team effort and the grace of God.

May God Richly Bless You

Pastor Brad.

ABOUT US
One hundred and forty-two years of Praise and Glory to God is an appropriate and fitting way to characterize the history of Springfield Baptist Church. In 1878, by an arbor bush on what was called the Double Bridges Road and now Springfield Road, a small number of worshippers met to discuss and organize what was to become Springfield Baptist Church.   The church was given the name Springfield to represent the one word which combines the necessities of life:  SPRING, a water supply for most folks, and FIELD, a place which supplied their food. There have been eighteen pastors serving Springfield Baptist Church from 1878 to 2020. Reverend Dr. Ozie G. Bradford, Jr. of Springfield Baptist Church, was elected on December 15, 2019. Current Deacons are Robert L. Stokes (Chairman), Kelvin Lewis, Irma Robertson, Sharmaine Robertson,  Johnnie Streat, Joseph Streat, Kenith Williams and Julius Whitehead.  The church has also been blessed with the Ministers that continue to serve: Reverend Raymond Dowdy, Reverend Sandra Hurt-Rice, Minister Michael J. Fowlkes, Reverend Renetta Bradford, Reverend Carl and Shanell Hunt. The Trustees currently are Brothers Michael Fowlkes, Melvin Harried, Silvester Harris, Joseph Hartso, Willis Hughes Sr., Floyd Jackson and Sisters Jacqueline Miller, Dorothy Miller and Naomi Whitehead. Brinda Fowlkes is the Church Clerk.  Although the church has been blessed with  Pastors and Officers, it is because of the commitment and faithful perseverance of the members of Springfield that the Church continues to be a beacon of hope for over 140 years.   We look to the future, and continue to strive with the grace of God to make it what our forefathers, fathers, and mothers would have it to be. We will not forget our rich Christian heritage and God’s love as we continue to pray for His guidance and blessings. To God, we give all the glory, praise, and honor.
